Kuwait mourns martyred soldiers

Amir offers condolences • Martyrs laid to rest • Kuwaiti-US team to investigate accident

KUWAIT: HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent two cables of condolences to the families of Kuwait Army personnel Major Sergeant Ahmad Farhan Harat and Sergeant Musaed Dhahi Al-Shammari, who were martyred on duty on Wednesday during a night shooting exercise with live ammunition dubbed “Desert Observer”. Two other personnel were injured. HH the Amir extended heartfelt condolences to the martyrs’ families and prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the martyrs and grant their families patience and solace. His Highness the Amir also wished the wounded personnel a speedy recovery.

HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah also sent cables of condolences to the families of the martyrs. The two martyrs were laid to rest on Thursday in a solemn funeral at Sulaibikhat cemetery.

Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Sabah and all members of the defense ministry mourned on Wednesday the martyrdom of the two ground forces personnel. Sheikh Abdullah prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow His mercy on the two martyrs and extended his sincere condolences to their families.

The ministry of defense announced on Thursday that it has assembled a Kuwaiti-US technical team to investigate the accident.

The move came upon the directives of Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah. In a press release, the ministry of defense affirmed that the visit of Sheikh Abdullah to the location of the accident in Udaira and assembling the investigative team reflects the cooperation and partnership between the two sides and joint keenness on applying the high standards of safety in training and exercises.

Sheikh Abdullah on Thursday also visited Jahra Hospital to check on those injured during the accident — Corporal Anwar Khalaf Radwan and Corporal Mutlaq Mohammad Mubarak. The ministry of defense said the minister was briefed in detail about the health of the injured and their conditions, wishing them speedy recovery. He was accompanied by Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi.

The ministry of interior also mourned the martyrs on Thursday. The ministry, represented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, Undersecretary Lt Gen Sheikh Salem Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah and all ministry personnel prayed for the families of the martyrs, wishing them patience and solace.

The United Arab Emirates on Thursday condoled Kuwait on the martyrdom of the army officers. The Emirati foreign ministry conveyed its deepest condolences and solace to Kuwait, its government and people as well as the families of the deceased, and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al-Budaiwi extended sincere condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal and to the Kuwaiti government and people on the martyrdom of the two army personnel. In a statement, Al-Budaiwi also extended his heartfelt condolences to families of the martyrs and wished the wounded speedy recovery.

President of the Arab Parliament Mohammad Al-Yamahi expressed on Thursday his condolences to Kuwait and its people. He offered his condolences to the family of the martyrs and wished the wounded a speedy recovery, as well as reaffirming the Arab Parliament’s backing of Kuwait.
