Tunisia’s memorial initiative symbolizes depth of Kuwait ties

TUNIS: A delegation from the College of Architecture at Kuwait University departed for Tunisia to supervise the design of two memorial monuments, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), to be built in the capital and the other in the ancient city of Kerkouane. The project’s supervisor at the fund, Dhahouk Al-Banwan, told KUNA that Tunisia took the initiative to donate two land sites to Kuwait for implementing memorials that symbolize the depth of the bilateral relations, adding that two Kuwaiti female students won the two monument projects.

In a statement to KUNA, Dr Mohammad Al-Ajmi, a professor in the Architecture Department at KU, commended these projects proposed by governmental and private bodies for their role in encouraging students to participate in important initiatives that contribute to enriching their academic careers. For her part, architecture student Jana Al-Abduljader, who won the design for the Tunis Capital Monument, told KUNA that this experience is an exceptional opportunity for her to enhance her vision in architectural design, noting that the monument takes the form of a sailboat inspired by the national anthems of Kuwait and Tunisia.

In turn, architecture student Noura Al-Babtain, who won the design for the monument in Kerkouane, said that the design reflects historical and cultural values through an artistic vision that combines heritage and modernity, adding that the design represents a bus station in the ancient city. The female students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and pride in being chosen by the fund and the university to represent Kuwait through their designs.

The two students were accompanied by a delegation from the Kuwait Fund, including coordination and follow-up specialist Abdulrazzaq Al-Sanea, engineering consultant Rawya Al-Awadhi, and university professors, as they visited the relevant sites to conduct a field survey and take measurements for comparison. The project, funded by KFAED, is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Municipality of Tunis, and the Municipality of Kerkouane. — KUNA
