KUWAIT: Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr Adarsh Swaika, told Kuwait Times that “Bharat Mela” is one of the first events of its kind that the embassy has organized on such a massive scale, featuring over 700 artists performing from 11 am to 9 pm.
Held on Saturday at Boulevard Park Cricket Stadium, the event highlighted India’s rich cultural diversity, with performances representing North, South, West, East, and Northeast India. It also brought together Indians, Kuwaitis, and other expatriates, creating a lively cultural exchange.
Dr Swaika emphasized the deep cultural connection of the Indian community in Kuwait, describing it as “the largest in the country” and highlighting how their strong ties to their heritage are reflected in the quality of performances. ”Our goal is to unite the Indian community, build trust and camaraderie, and give them a day to enjoy, express themselves, and experience Indian music, dance, cuisine, and traditions,” he said.

The event also featured various Indian businesses, reflecting what the ambassador described as “one of the major roles of the embassy,” which is to support Indian enterprises. It also highlighted India’s growing economic presence in Kuwait.
Dr Swaika emphasized India’s expanding trade ties with Kuwait, stating, “Many Indian firms are engaged in major infrastructure projects here.” He noted that the recent visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait was “highly successful,” with discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation. “These business engagements are a testament to our growing partnership. Our bilateral trade exceeds $10 billion, and for the first time, Indian exports have reached $2 billion. Seeing Indian-made cars and products in Kuwait is also a sign of this expanding collaboration,” he said.
According to the ambassador, community-centered events have long been part of the embassy’s initiatives. “We have been organizing such events in different formats — some at the embassy, some at other venues. But this is the first time, at least in recent memory, that we have done something on this scale. We hope to replicate it in the future as well,” he said.
