KUWAIT: Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Toutounchi stated that trade volume between Iran and Kuwait had reached $350 million, expressing ambitions to develop land transportation routes through Iran’s Shalamcheh border crossing to Safwan and then to Abdali, aiming to reduce shipping costs and strengthen trade cooperation. Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the Iranian Food Festival, the ambassador highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between the two neighboring Muslim countries, expressing hope that, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince, relations between Iran and Kuwait would witness significant progress both at all levels.

He congratulated Kuwait on being named Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025, describing it as a testament to Kuwait’s leadership in cultural and media development in the Arab world. He expressed hope for greater cultural, media, and tourism exchanges between the two countries. On Gaza and the Ceasefire Agreement, the ambassador emphasized the need to honor the martyrs of the resistance, stating that the ceasefire is a direct result of Palestinian resilience, describing Gaza’s steadfastness against one of history’s largest genocidal massacres and forced displacements as a historic victory for the Palestinian people and the resistance movement.

He expressed hope that, with the support of the international community and active diplomatic engagement, the region would see full implementation of the agreed measures, an end to genocide and destruction in Gaza, complete withdrawal of the occupying forces, accountability in international courts for crimes against humanity, and urgent humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s people.

Responding to reports about US intentions to influence Gaza’s governance, the ambassador said "Gaza’s future is determined by its people. They are the rightful owners of their land and have paid a heavy price to defend their identity. No external power has the right to decide their fate.” Regarding Syria, the Iranian ambassador reaffirmed his country’s stance on supporting all components of Syrian society, expressing hope that the next phase would pave the way for inclusive national participation in rebuilding the country’s future.

Regarding Iran’s approach to the new US administration, he confirmed that Iran has already initiated communication, especially following Netanyahu’s call for a shift in US Middle East policy, including increased pressure on Iran. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, emphasizing that the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement aligns with ongoing engagement between Iran and the P5+1 countries, hoping that the new US administration would take serious and practical steps beyond mere statements.

Discussing the transfer of Iranian prisoners from Kuwait, the ambassador confirmed that the process is ongoing, with continuous coordination between the relevant authorities. He expressed gratitude to all those who facilitated the agreement. Addressing visa challenges for the Iranian community, he acknowledged existing difficulties and affirmed ongoing efforts to streamline procedures in line with the strong bilateral relations.

He concluded by emphasizing Iran’s commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation to resolve outstanding issues, reaffirming that the Islamic Republic remains dedicated to finding solutions to all mutual concerns. On the Iranian food festival, he said that Iranian cuisine is a bridge connecting nations, reflecting history, values, and shared culture. With 2,500 traditional dishes, it is one of the richest culinary traditions in the world. Each region has its unique flavors shaped by centuries of cultural exchange. This festival brings authentic Iranian tastes, embodying history, art, and passion. Every dish tells a story of hospitality and heritage.
