KUWAIT: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait organized a flag hoisting ceremony on Sunday, on the occasion of the Republic Day of India at its premises. In his opening remarks, Indian Ambassador Dr Adarsh Swaika announced that the Government of India has honored Sheikha Shaikha A J Al-Sabah with the Padma Shri, one of the country’s most prestigious civilian awards, in recognition of her exceptional efforts in promoting yoga in Kuwait and the region. The Embassy of India in Kuwait congratulated her on receiving this distinguished award, marking the first time a Kuwaiti national has been bestowed.
The ambassador stated that India’s journey of economic progress has been remarkable, driven by bold and far-sighted reforms that have created significant job opportunities, especially for farmers and laborers, noting that these initiatives have not only lifted millions out of poverty but have also ensured greater financial empowerment.

He affirmed that financial inclusion has been a top priority for his country’s government, adding that at the same time, the government has redefined welfare by making basic necessities like housing and clean drinking water a matter of entitlement. These measures have particularly benefited marginalized communities.
“India has also undertaken transformative steps to modernize its legal and governance systems. The replacement of colonial-era laws like the Indian Penal Code with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and related reforms has placed justice delivery at the heart of the criminal justice system. These new laws, rooted in Indian traditions, prioritize addressing crimes against women and children, reflecting the country’s commitment to fairness,” he said.
The Indian Ambassador noted that India’s growing confidence as a nation is also evident in the field of sports, where Indian athletes continue to create inspiring success stories. “Last year, they made a significant impact at the Olympic Games. In the Paralympic Games, we sent our largest-ever contingent, which delivered a record-breaking performance. Our chess champions also made history, with both men and women securing gold at the Philly Chess World Cup. India has always taken pride in its advancements in space. I have full faith in the dedication and enthusiasm of our astronauts, who have been shaping India’s space journey since 1993. Future generations will continue to uphold the legacy of India’s remarkable space endeavors.”
The event was attended by embassy officials, members of the Indian community, and VIP Indian guests. The ceremony begins with the hoisting of the Indian national flag, national anthem, and followed by traditional Indian cultural performances, fostering a sense of unity and pride among attendees.
