KUWAIT: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) hosted the third edition of the “Go Green Kuwait” initiative on Saturday at the Al-Abdaliya Nature Reserve. The tree-planting event is part of a larger environmental campaign aimed at supporting the New Kuwait’s 2035 vision, focusing on afforestation and the development of natural reserves to expand green spaces across the country.
In a significant gesture of collaboration, KOC allocated a special tree-planting zone within the nature reserve exclusively for the Korean community, highlighting the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Kuwait and South Korea.
The event was attended by South Korean Ambassador Park Chong-suk, Vice President of the Korean Community Association in Kuwait Oh Sung-dae and Kuwait Branch Manager of the Korean Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC) Hyeon Bong-cheol. Several volunteers from the Korean community and KOC participated.

Ambassador Park expressed his appreciation, stating: “Planting a tree is planting hope for future generations. Initiatives like ‘Go Green Kuwait’ reflect the strength of the Korea-Kuwait partnership and our shared commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.” Hyeon also shared his pride in being part of the event. “I am very proud of being part of Kuwait’s government efforts to make Kuwait more sustainable and greener.”
The event also highlighted the ecological significance of planting desert-adapted species such as Vachellia tortilis and Rhanterium. These hardy plants, capable of thriving in the challenging Kuwaiti desert, serve as a metaphor for the enduring and resilient relationship between Kuwait and South Korea. The “Go Green Kuwait” campaign reinforces the shared vision of Kuwait and South Korea for a sustainable future, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
