Total aid sent to Syria from Kuwait reaches 280 tons

DAMASCUS: The tenth relief flight of the Kuwaiti airlift arrived Thursday at Damascus International Airport, carrying 40 tons of diverse food supplies and winter necessities for the most vulnerable groups. This operation was organized by the Al-Salam Charity Society, with cooperation from the Ministries of Social Affairs, Foreign Affairs, and Defense, represented by the Kuwaiti Air Force. Omar Malki, Media and Communication Unit Head at the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, confirmed to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the ongoing collaboration and partnership between the Syrian Red Crescent and the Kuwaiti charity organizations participating in the “Kuwait by Your Side” campaign continues, due to the ongoing needs for basic food, medicine, health supplies, shelter materials, and more.

He also revealed plans for future collaboration with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to support these efforts, emphasizing Kuwait’s continuous humanitarian work aimed at assisting those in need. He explained that the Syrian Red Crescent’s role involves coordinating with various international humanitarian bodies, receiving the aid, and distributing it to the targeted communities in Syria.

He further clarified that the operational process begins with communication between the Syrian Red Crescent and the donor organizations to select the most essential supplies. The aid is then received at the airport and delivered either directly to the concerned authorities or via local partners. Among the Kuwaiti donations, the Syrian Red Crescent received two ambulances, which were handed over to the Syrian Ministry of Health, as well as flour, which was sent directly to automated mills for the benefit of local communities.

Malki stressed the importance of coordination with charity organizations to ensure the selection of aid that meets the real needs of families, avoiding any materials that may not be used in Syria. He emphasized that the Kuwaiti airlift’s ongoing assistance is a testament to the long-standing brotherly bond and solidarity between the two countries.

To date, the total amount of Kuwaiti aid sent to Syria has reached about 280 tons, including food, medical supplies, and winter necessities aimed at helping the most vulnerable groups in Syria under the “Kuwait by Your Side” campaign, with the participation of various Kuwaiti charity organizations. — KUNA
