KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah has announced plans to establish new Mubarakiya markets in Ahmadi and Jahra, in line with His Highness the Amir’s directives to preserve Kuwait’s historical and heritage sites. Sheikh Fahad emphasized that the original Souq Al-Mubarakiya is a popular destination for visitors and that His Highness has encouraged the creation of similar markets in these two areas. He expressed optimism that these new markets would soon come to fruition.
This announcement was made during Sheikh Fahad’s visit to the Red Palace on Friday evening, where he was accompanied by Jahra Governor Jassim Al-Habashi to attend national celebration activities in the presence of a large crowd of residents.
Souq Al-Mubarakiya, Kuwait’s oldest and most famous market, holds a special place in the hearts of locals. As a vibrant commercial hub, it reflects Kuwait’s rich history as a center of trade and culture in the Gulf. Dating back over 120 years, the market offers a wide variety of goods, including spices, textiles, perfumes, antiques, and jewelry. Visitors can explore its winding alleys, enjoy the traditional atmosphere, and shop for unique items that capture the essence of Kuwait’s heritage.
The idea of recreating the Mubarakiya market is not new. Last October, Kuwait Municipality announced plans for a heritage market at the Red Palace project inspired by Souq Al-Mubarakiya. This new market will feature elements of Kuwaiti heritage, such as a gold market, a dates market, and a clothing market. Additionally, a large stage for events will be incorporated into the design. — Agencies
