Kuwait received varying amounts of rainfall: Official

KUWAIT: Kuwait witnessed varying amounts of rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the extension of a low pressure system accompanying a deep depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere. The country recorded the highest rainfall in Jal Al-Liyah at 10.8 mm and the lowest in Nuwaiseeb at 0.2 mm.

Director of the Meteorology Department Dharar Al-Ali told KUNA on Thursday that the rainfall varied in several areas, as the department recorded 8.5 mm in Abdali, 8.4 mm in Wafra, 7.7 mm in Al-Sabriya, and 7.4 mm in Al-Rabiyah. Al-Ali added that the department also recorded 6.2 mm of rainfall at Kuwait International Airport, 4.1 mm in Al-Jahra, and 3 mm in Salmiya and in 1.9 mm Al-Abraq farms.

The Meteorology Department meanwhile expected the country to be affected by an extension of a high pressure system accompanied by a cold air mass, so the weather during the weekend will be moderate during the day and cold to very cold at night. Al-Ali said Saturday morning will witness the beginning of the advance of a low pressure system with the increase of low and medium clouds interspersed with cumulus clouds with chances of scattered light to moderate rains that will sometimes be thundery in some areas with chances of fog formation, low horizontal visibility and high sea waves until Sunday evening.

He said that the weather on Friday will be moderate, with northwesterly to variable winds, light to moderate, with speeds ranging from 8 to 28 km/h, and expected maximum temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.

The sea will be light to moderate, with waves between 1 and 3 feet. He said that the weather on Friday evening will be cold, with variable winds, light to moderate, with speeds ranging from 6 to 26 km/h, and expected minimum temperatures between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.
