KUWAIT: The Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity (SACGC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, invites Kuwaiti students to register for the national qualifying tests in preparation for the 2025 International Physics Olympiad in France and the International Chemistry Olympiad in the UAE.
In a press release, SACGC Director General Neda Al-Daihani announced that registration for the national tests is open until January 28. He described the registration as a “key” step in positioning Kuwait as a leader in global scientific competition. Al-Daihani expressed confidence that the students have the potential to achieve results that exceed the targeted 11 percent success rate set by the national initiative.
The center’s efforts are aimed at improving Kuwait’s performance in the International Scientific Olympiads, particularly in chemistry and physics, following a disappointing outcome where Kuwaiti students scored only 11 percent of the total possible points. To address this, the SACGC has developed a comprehensive strategic plan that focuses on enhancing student training, empowering teachers, and fostering collaboration with both public and private sector entities.
The first stage of this initiative involved organizing a scientific conference with international experts on Olympiad training in December 2024. This was followed in January 2025 by the creation of a national test designed for students with a passion for chemistry and physics. In February 2025, a specialized committee will select the top 50 students based on their performance in the test.
From March to June 2025, the fourth stage of the plan will offer intensive theoretical training for students, teachers, and specialists, all under the guidance of international trainers. The fifth stage, set to take place in June and July 2025, will provide practical training in laboratories equipped for Olympiad-level challenges. In July 2025, the sixth stage will assist students in traveling to participate in the International Scientific Olympiad. Finally, the seventh stage will involve monitoring students’ performance during the Olympiad itself with a team of professional observers.
Through this initiative, the SACGC aims to cultivate a generation of highly skilled students, improve Kuwait’s performance in global scientific competitions, and establish a sustainable system for future success. Al-Daihani emphasized that the national Olympiad tests in physics and chemistry are designed to identify young Kuwaiti scientists and researchers who are passionate about these fields. The SACGC is committed to providing all necessary resources to improve students’ skills, offering specialized training programs led by international experts.
He also pointed out that the national tests will include multiple-choice questions, a format that may be unfamiliar to many students. The aim of these tests is not only to assess students’ scientific knowledge but also to evaluate their adaptability to new question formats, thereby establishing a unified assessment standard.
Registration for the tests is open to Kuwaiti students in grades 9, 10, and 11, whether enrolled in public or private schools. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English, both written and spoken, and show a genuine interest in or aptitude for science.
