ShareKUWAIT: In 2024, Kuwait has continued its longstanding tradition of humanitarian aid, with significant contributions to regions affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts, and ongoing crises. Through a range of initiatives led by various Kuwaiti charitable organizations, the country has provided essential support to millions of people across multiple continents, particularly in the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia.
Air bridges to Gaza, Sudan
A major aspect of Kuwait’s humanitarian response in 2024 has been the establishment of air bridges to Gaza and Sudan. These airlifts have played a crucial role in delivering essential supplies to populations facing dire conditions. Throughout the year, multiple flights were organized to Gaza, where Kuwait’s aid organizations have been sending vital food, medical supplies, tents, and ambulances. At least 25 relief missions were carried out providing ongoing support to those in need.
In Sudan, where people suffered from severe flooding in addition to the ongoing war, Kuwait also launched numerous airlifts. Between January and December, flights from Kuwait delivered essential supplies, including food, medical aid, and ambulances, to Sudanese communities affected by the ongoing crisis.
Support for Yemen, Lebanon
Kuwait has maintained a significant presence in Yemen, where the ongoing conflict has led to widespread humanitarian needs. Kuwaiti organizations, including the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Kuwait Society for Relief, have been involved in a wide range of relief activities across the country. These efforts have included the provision of food, medical aid, and the construction of healthcare and educational infrastructure.
In March, the KRCS initiated a health campaign, setting up mobile clinics and offering free surgeries at hospitals. Additionally, Kuwaiti organizations worked to restore schools in conflict-affected areas. Notably, two schools in the provinces of Taiz and Lahj were rehabilitated and reopened, providing local children with an opportunity to continue their education.
Lebanon has also received substantial assistance from Kuwaiti organizations. The KRCS and Kuwait Relief Agency have facilitated the delivery of food, medical supplies, and water to Lebanese and Syrian refugees in the country. After the Zionist aggression on Lebanon escalated in September, Kuwait sent numerous airlifts that brought essential aid to the affected regions.
International projects
Kuwait’s humanitarian response has not only focused on immediate relief but also on long-term development projects. In August, the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) laid the foundation for five educational and rehabilitation projects for orphans in Indonesia. These projects aim to provide sustainable educational and vocational training opportunities.
In Europe, IICO opened a new Islamic center in Wodź, Poland. The center, which includes a mosque, classrooms, and a library, is expected to serve over 10,000 Muslims in the area, contributing to the religious and educational needs of the local community.
Collaborative Efforts
Kuwait has also worked in collaboration with international organizations to address humanitarian needs in various regions. In 2024, the Kuwait Relief Agency signed agreements with global partners, including the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), to provide aid to Sudan and other crisis-stricken regions. These partnerships have helped ensure the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Kuwait’s humanitarian efforts remain a key element of its foreign policy.
