Disability marathon promotes health, social inclusion

KUWAIT: The second Disability Marathon was held on Wednesday organized in collaboration with the Public Authority for Disability Affairs and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, with the aim of promoting better health and enhancing the sports skills of participants.

The marathon sought to highlight the athleticism of people with disabilities, fostering inclusion and helping them overcome isolation. It also encouraged participants to engage in physical activities as a means of preventing health issues associated with a sedentary lifestyle.

Notably, the event brought together individuals with Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, and other conditions. It was attended by parents, experts, and professionals working in the field of disability services, creating an atmosphere of competition and encouragement that inspired participants to face challenges and overcome obstacles.

A total of 215 participants from 14 organizations and special needs schools across the country took part in the marathon. These included the Kuwait Center for Autism and the Kuwait Down Syndrome Society. — KUNA
