BANGKOK: Kuwait and Thailand held their first round of political consultations in the Thai capital, Bangkok. Both sides agreed to enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership across all areas. The Kuwaiti side was led by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, while the Thai side was headed by Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand Paisan Rupanichkij.

Hayat, in a phone call with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), said the meetings were held in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting the historical significance of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, which have lasted for 61 years. He noted that the views exchanged during the discussions were largely aligned with the Thai side.

The meeting addressed the strong and growing strategic relations between the two nations and explored ways to enhance and develop cooperation in various fields. Additionally, both sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. During the first round of consultations, both sides also discussed bilateral issues and ways to activate economic, investment, trade, and technological links. They agreed to expand cooperation and coordination across all areas, pushing the bilateral relationship to new heights.

Both sides also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and Northeast Asia, especially in terms of coordination and cooperation in international forums, particularly the United Nations.

The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular consultations between their foreign ministries. They also agreed to explore the details of establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership in various sectors, including economic, trade, investment, health, cultural, scientific, artistic, academic, renewable energy, oil, and petrochemicals. This step is seen as crucial for enhancing energy security and stabilizing its cost.

Both countries also expressed their joint ambitions to continue expanding their distinguished economic partnership, focusing on areas of mutual interest and shared capabilities. They highlighted the importance of the health sector as a priority for development and cooperation, particularly in exchanging expertise to foster growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness. — KUNA
