MoH taps University of Houston for medical scholarships, training

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health welcomed a delegation from the University of Houston, Texas on Saturday as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance medical education and develop its medical workforce across various specialties. The meeting, led by Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation in the areas of scholarships and advanced medical training.

The discussions centered on strengthening postgraduate programs for both dentists and physicians by offering specialized training opportunities at the University of Houston. The delegation also explored ways to exchange knowledge and expertise through visiting doctor programs.

Attending the meeting were Dr Ahmed Asad, Assistant Undersecretary for Dental Affairs, Dr Fawzi Al-Qatami, Director of the Orthodontics Program, and Dr Khaled Alyaqout, Head of Scholarships at the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties (KIMS).

Dr Al-Awadhi highlighted the importance of such meetings in fostering international collaboration, which supports medical excellence and ensures that Kuwait stays up to date with the latest global advancements in dentistry and medicine. He also commended the University of Houston’s leadership in training highly qualified medical professionals.

The University of Houston delegation expressed its enthusiasm for the collaboration, confirming their full support for Kuwait’s scholarship programs and the exchange of expertise, which will contribute to further enhancing healthcare services in the country. This initiative is in line with the ministry’s vision to improve the quality of medical and specialized education for its staff, ultimately leading to better healthcare services that meet the community’s needs and align with international standards.
