KUWAIT: Peruvian Ambassador to Kuwait Carlos Enrique Tomas Jimenez Gil-Fortoul marked Peru’s Independence Day by emphasizing the enduring and deep-rooted ties between Peru and Kuwait, which have strengthened over nearly five decades.

Speaking on Monday to an audience that included Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the ambassador pledged Peru’s continued friendship and support for Kuwait. “We pledge that, as in the past 50 years, we, the people of Peru, will stand by the State of Kuwait, proving our friendship and offering our support whenever needed,” he said.

The ambassador also commemorated Peru’s bicentennial by reflecting on the values of freedom and diversity. “Today, exactly 200 years ago, the people of Peru sealed their independence,” he said, underscoring that freedom is more than governance — it is a promise that empowers individuals to shape their destinies. “Freedom is much more than elections and laws,” he explained. “It is a driving force for social progress, allowing us to debate, dissent and build together. In freedom, no idea is too small. Only in freedom can we achieve equality, civil rights, and the full expression of our humanity.”

Highlighting Peru’s strength in diversity, the ambassador celebrated the nation’s ability to coexist harmoniously with various cultures and ideas. “We may not always agree, but through free dialogue, we find solutions that benefit us all,” he noted. As Peru celebrates 200 years of independence, the ambassador called on Peruvians to renew their commitment to freedom with hope and determination. “Let us move forward together, so Peru may continue to stand as a land of peace and freedom for another 200 years or more,” he concluded.
