ROME: A historic milestone was achieved in the World Inter Universities Championship, held in Rome, Italy, from November 6 to 10, 2024. Representing Kuwait, the athletic teams of Kuwait Technical College (Ktech) excelled on a global level in a championship that brought together over 4,500 student athletes from 120 universities and colleges worldwide.
The volleyball team earned an impressive third place finish globally, while the basketball team advanced to the top 16. These accomplishments highlight the exceptional talent of Kuwaiti youth and their ability to compete internationally, standing out against strong teams from countries such as Italy, Switzerland, France, Egypt and Bahrain.
Moreover, Meshari Ayman Boodai, Chairman of Board of Trustees at Kuwait Technical College, expressed his pride in this remarkable achievement, stating: “This historic accomplishment succeeded by Kuwait Technical College students is a proud addition to Kuwait’s record of sports excellence. Competing in an event of this magnitude and earning distinguished rankings elevates Kuwait’s name on the global stage and confirms the ability of our youth to shine internationally.
We dedicate this success to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and look forward to achieving even greater milestones in the future.” Additionally, Ktech’s success marks the first of its kind among universities and colleges in the Arab world, further cementing Kuwait’s leadership in sports and academia.
The achievement aligns with Kuwait technical college’s vision to enhance student athletic development by providing opportunities for international competitions and collaborations with teams worldwide. Furthermore, one of the objectives of Ktech is to continue supporting its sports teams throughout their academic paths, annually qualifying top-performing local league teams for global championships, with the goal of advancing sports in Kuwait.
