ABU DHABI: Kuwaiti officials have celebrated the enduring and deep-rooted ties between Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, underscoring the strong cooperation and shared goals that have defined their relationship for decades. Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UAE Jamal Al-Ghunaim praised the Kuwait-UAE partnership as a model of Gulf cooperation, highlighting the historic and brotherly bonds that unite the two nations.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ghunaim conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the leadership, government, and people of the UAE, noting that the UAE National Day marks not only the remarkable progress the country has made since its founding in 1971 but also the unity and resilience that define the UAE’s success. "This day represents not just a celebration for the UAE, but for all Gulf and Arab nations,” Al-Ghunaim said. "It symbolizes the values of unity, solidarity, and shared aspirations for a better future.”

The ambassador emphasized Kuwait’s pride in its close ties with the UAE, which are built on mutual understanding, respect, and brotherhood. He stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen Gulf cooperation to benefit future generations.

A shared destiny

Kuwait’s Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates Ambassador Ali Al-Thiaidi also extended his congratulations to the UAE on its National Day. Speaking to KUNA, he emphasized the shared destiny and brotherhood that bind the peoples of Kuwait and the UAE, particularly as this year’s UAE National Day coincides with the hosting of the 45th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Kuwait.

Al-Thiaidi praised the deep historical, social, and economic ties between the two countries, noting that these relations have only strengthened over time. "We share a common future and continue to support each other’s development,” Al-Thiaidi said, wishing the UAE continued prosperity and growth.

Celebrating the UAE’s achievements

This year’s UAE National Day theme, "Spirit of the Union,” recalls the historic meeting in 1971 when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, and the rulers of the Emirates raised the UAE flag, marking the formal establishment of the union. The theme emphasizes the collective vision of unity and progress that has driven the UAE’s success. The UAE has made significant strides in various fields, establishing itself as a global leader in innovation and sustainability. Notable achievements include the successful launch of the Hope Probe, positioning the UAE as the first Arab country to reach Mars, and the operation of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plants, the Arab world’s first peaceful nuclear reactor. In addition, the UAE’s tourism sector has flourished, further strengthening the country’s position as a top global destination. The UAE’s commitment to clean energy and green development aligns with its long-term vision for progress, making it a leader in environmental sustainability.

A history of cooperation

The relationship between Kuwait and the UAE dates back to the founding of the UAE in 1971. Kuwait was among the first countries to establish official diplomatic relations with the UAE, with both embassies opening in 1972. Since then, both nations have enjoyed a history of mutual support and cooperation, marked by regular visits and joint efforts on regional and international issues.

A key moment in this partnership was the state visit by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to Kuwait in November. This visit, along with several others, further solidified the long-standing brotherly ties between the two countries. Similarly, Kuwaiti officials, including HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, have visited the UAE in recent months, deepening their strategic cooperation.

Kuwait and the UAE also collaborate within regional organizations such as the GCC and the Arab League, where they share common goals of stability, development, and prosperity. These efforts have significantly contributed to the mutual well-being and security of both nations.

Enduring friendship

The UAE’s support for Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion in 1990 remains a defining moment in the history of their bilateral relations. Kuwait recalls with deep gratitude how the UAE hosted tens of thousands of Kuwaiti families and sent its armed forces to participate in the liberation of Kuwait. This act of solidarity is a testament to the strong, enduring friendship between the two countries.

As Kuwait and the UAE celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the UAE’s National Day, both nations reaffirm their commitment to deepening their cooperation and strengthening their ties across all sectors.
