RIYADH/DOHA: Representative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya, delivered a written message to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, inviting him to attend the 45th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, which will be hosted by Kuwait on December 1, 2024.
The message also emphasized the strong historical ties and brotherly relations between the two countries and their peoples. The delivery of the message took place during a meeting between Al-Yahya and Saudi Minister of State and Cabinet Member Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in Riyadh.
Ahead of the summit, GCC defense ministers met Tuesday in the Qatari capital, Doha, for the the 21st session of the Joint Defense Council of the Ministers of Defense of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, led Kuwait’s delegation to the meeting.
Sheikh Fahad expressed his pride and appreciation for the State of Qatar, particularly His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of Qatar, for the valuable efforts made during Qatar’s presidency of the previous term of the Joint Defense Council.
Sheikh Fahad extended his congratulations to Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on his appointment as Qatar’s Minister of State for Defense Affairs and President of the current term of the Joint Defense Council, wishing him success in his duties.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the meeting is being held amid complex regional and international challenges, which require intensified efforts to enhance military coordination and cooperation among GCC countries in support of regional security and stability. Sheikh Fahad also commended the achievements made in the current year, particularly the joint military exercises and training that have significantly improved the capabilities of the GCC armed forces, reflecting the vision and directives of the GCC leaders. — KUNA
