KU graduate school to allocate seats for students with disabilities

PAAET works with KFF to create new fire engineering technology department

KUWAIT: The Kuwait University Council approved on Tuesday a proposal from the College of Graduate Studies to allocate one seat for students with disabilities in each graduate program. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Kuwait University President Osama Al-Saeed.

In a statement after the meeting, Acting Secretary-General and official spokesperson of the university Mishari Al-Eifan announced that the council also approved a memorandum outlining the application requirements, and expected student intake in the College of Graduate Studies for the 2025-2026 academic year, as well as the number of graduate scholarships available for that period.

He added that the council viewed proposed policies aimed at improving the university’s global ranking. The council also endorsed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Kuwait University and Swansea University in the United Kingdom, as well as a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Health and the College of Life Sciences at Kuwait University.

In other academic news, the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) approved Monday the establishment of a new fire engineering technology department at the College of Technological Studies, offering both bachelor’s and diploma programs.

The decision was made during the 156th board meeting for the academic year 2024-2025, chaired by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Nader Al-Jallal, and attended by the Director General of PAAET Hassan Al-Fajam, and other board members. In a statement following the meeting, Al-Fajam noted that the new department was created in collaboration with the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), whose support was instrumental in the success of this initiative. — KUNA
