KUWAIT: Kuwait National Library hosted a celebration marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Azerbaijan. The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Kuwait, Emil Karimov, told reporters that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Kuwait is advancing rapidly across all sectors. He highlighted that both official and people-to-people ties are strong and deep, encompassing politics, culture, and religion, and more.
Director General of Kuwait National Library Siham Al-Azmi stressed the strength of Kuwaiti-Azerbaijani relations and praised the efforts of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kuwait for its dedication to fostering ties between the two nations, which were first established in 1949.
The event also highlighted Shusha, a city in Azerbaijan, as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024, which was announced in September 2023 during the 12th Conference on Islamic Culture held in Doha, Qatar. "Shusha embodies the richness of Islamic culture and serves as a symbol of unity within the Islamic world,” Karimov said.
Karimov described Shusha as a city rich in history, culture, and monuments, which receive appreciation from Islamic countries and scientific and educational organizations. He emphasized the efforts of Islamic nations in restoring and preserving Shusha’s cultural, historical, and religious heritage, describing this recognition as a testament to the Islamic world’s solidarity with Azerbaijan.
Karimov also commended Azerbaijan’s contributions to the unity and solidarity of the Islamic world through bilateral and multilateral cooperation. He noted that the country frequently hosts international cultural and musical events that celebrate Islamic heritage.
Tuba Nur Sonmez, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Kuwait, reflected on Shusha’s cultural and historical significance. "This gathering celebrates Shusha’s cultural importance to the Islamic world,” Sonmez stated. "As an ally, Turkey has always extended its full support for Shusha’s development and reconstruction. The deep-rooted bond between Turkey and Azerbaijan ensures that challenges faced by one are shared by the other, and so are the successes.”
Mohammad Totonji, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kuwait, described Shusha as a hub of art, music, and cultural exchange. He noted its resilience and creativity, particularly in its contributions to the region’s musical heritage. "Shusha is a source of pride for both Azerbaijan and Iran, blending Persian literary traditions with Azerbaijani and Islamic art,” Totonji said. "This city serves as a bridge connecting cultures and celebrating interwoven creativity through its rich heritage.”
