KUWAIT: The Women’s Sports Committee at the Kuwait Olympic Committee held its regular meeting with sports bodies and federations at the headquarters of the Olympic Committee in Hawally, in the presence of the head of the Women’s Sports Committee, Fatima Hayat, and members of the committee, Sheikha Bibi Al-Salem Al-Sabah and Rabaa Al-Hajri, as well as heads of women’s committees in all sport federations.
The meeting discussed the achievements and activities of women’s sports in Kuwait during the last four years, the Women’s Sports Committee’s report in addition to the reports of the women’s committees for the 2023-2024 sports season and the upcoming season. The head of the Women’s Sports Committee at the Kuwait Olympic Committee, Fatima Hayat, thanked the heads of the women’s committees for honoring the invitation and their keenness to develop women’s sports.
"Women’s sport has become a tangible reality in the sports scene in Kuwait, and this came after many years of hard work, during which many great achievements were achieved. We are faced with new challenges, perhaps the most important of which is taking women’s sport to an advanced stage of development, and this needs more cooperation and work from various parties in order to compete for advanced positions regionally and in Asia,” she said.
Hamed Al-Omran, Secretary General of the Squash Federation and Chairman of the Women’s Committee, said that the meeting was fruitful and positive. "We discussed the need to approve partial professionalism for female players in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Public Authority for Sport. We received reassuring promises in this regard and want to include women’s competitions in the General Excellence Cup and provide an independent budget for technical devices for women’s sports.
We hope that all suggestions will be translated into reality,” Al-Omran explained. In addition, the head of the Women’s Sports Committee in the Handball Federation, Dr Al-Jazi Al-Munis, said that the most prominent obstacles that hinder the progress of women’s sports are the lack of sufficient sporting facilities to practice their favorite sports.
