Kuwait’s 47th International Book Fair opens doors

Minister Al-Mutairi urges children, young people to read

KUWAIT: The 47th edition of the Kuwait International Book Fair opened Wednesday, welcoming everyone who shares a passion for culture, learning, and books. Running from November 20 to November 30, 2024, the fair offers people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to explore the ever-evolving world of books—a world that continues to captivate and inspire year after year. The fair is held under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Ahmad Al-Sabah.

“While the works of creators showcase their talents, today we fulfill our duty by recognizing their achievements, ensuring that these contributions continue to resonate in the hearts of future generations,” said Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.

At the opening ceremony, Minister Al-Mutairi welcomed all the attendees, including the presidents and organizers of the 47th International Book Fair. He also welcomed representatives of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which is the fair’s guest of honor. He noted that their presence reflects their deep-rooted and rich cultural heritage.

Mutairi also praised this year’s book fair honoree Dr Abdullah Yusuf Al-Ghunaim, Chairman of the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait (CRSK), for his outstanding contributions to Kuwait. He also emphasized that the Kuwait International Book Fair is considered one of the most significant cultural events in Kuwait, organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters. “Culture is a way of life and a method of thinking.

At this international fair, numerous publishing houses participate, and we have an ambitious strategy to support, sponsor, and develop cultural activities, as they represent a bright window for Kuwait’s cultural and human interaction,” he said. He concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of encouraging children and young people to read, while equipping them with cultural skills that will enable them to face challenges with logic, sound reasoning, and an enlightened perspective.
