BRUSSELS: Ambassador of Kuwait to Belgium and Head of its missions to the European Union and NATO Nawaf Alenezi hosted a meeting at his residence in Brussels with Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting was attended by several Gulf and Arab ambassadors accredited in the Belgian capital.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Alenezi expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for Borrell’s positions and his prominent role since taking office in 2019, particularly in strengthening Kuwait-EU relations, as well as Gulf-EU relations. These relations have witnessed significant progress, culminating in the historic first summit between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union, which laid the foundation for a promising future in their relationship.
Ambassador Alenezi emphasized that Borrell represents a voice of wisdom and moderation on the international stage, as evident in his positions defending global peace and stability, as well as protecting international multilateralism, international law, and humanitarian law. He added that Kuwait and the European Union share many common positions and principles on regional and international issues, which are reflected in numerous dialogues between the two sides, as well as in international forums. Both are fully committed to contributing to the maintenance of international peace and security.
The ambassador also confirmed Kuwait’s readiness to assume the presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council starting in December and expressed the country’s eagerness to work closely with the European Union to implement the outcomes of the GCC-EU summit, which covered various aspects of cooperation and coordination between the two sides. — KUNA
