KUWAIT: Director of the Medical Emergency Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr Ahmad Al-Shatti, has stressed the importance of spreading health awareness and the culture of first aid to save lives and respond quickly to any emergency so as to enhance community safety, reduce complications, and emphasize the concept of social responsibility.

Al-Shatti said on Thursday (during a ceremony to honor 100 technicians and trainees from the department and heroes of medical emergencies), that 3,500 people were trained on manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid. The courses were organized in several governorates and the most crowded areas and lively shopping malls. He explained that the tour of the events started at the Avenues Mall for three days, followed by a four-day program at the Boulevard and Promenade Malls, respectively, for two days each. Then it moved to North Kuwait in Jahra Governorate for two days at the Jahra Mall; then moved to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate at the 360 Mall. The event was concluded in the Capital Governorate at Mubarakiya Market.

He expressed his thanks to all the malls’ administrations and sponsors who made the idea a useful reality to serve Kuwait through cooperation and encouragement. He also thanked the heroes of medical emergencies for their passion and commitment. For his part, Ambulance Supervisor Abdullah Al-Nafees praised the great role of the heroes of medical emergencies who participated in these events and who spared no effort in spreading the culture of first aid and raising community awareness.
