Burgan Bank sponsors 5th Gulf cyber security conference and exhibition

Bank’s continued efforts to advance data protection

KUWAIT: Burgan Bank recently concluded its sponsorship of and participation in the fifth edition of the Gulf Cyber Security Conference and Exhibition, which was held on November 5-6 at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, Kuwait. The Bank’s participation in this event, alongside a number of high-level international speakers and cybersecurity experts, confirms its commitment to supporting cybersecurity fortification within the banking sector. It also echoes Burgan’s unyielding efforts to reinforce cooperation with all relevant authorities on their shared mission to protect sensitive data against evolving fraud and hacking operations.

Commenting on the Bank’s participation, Fadel Mahmoud Abdullah, CEO of Burgan Bank – Kuwait, said: “We are proud to have participated in such an important conference that united the GCC market leaders and decision-makers for the common goal of devising a regional strategy to combat cyber-attacks and data theft by utilizing the latest cybersecurity technologies and risk management systems.

As leaders in banking cybersecurity, we were delighted to share our market insights and success in safeguarding our customers’ data against ever-evolving scams and fraud attempts, under the supervision and guidance of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), as well as highlight the collaborative efforts towards preserving the stability of the Kuwaiti banking sector.”

The conference agenda covered numerous vital topics, including the latest digital security technologies, cooperation opportunities across the GCC for combating cyber vulnerabilities and threats, as well as the best approaches to raising awareness across the public and private spheres about the latest threats to cybersecurity and the most advanced means to combat them.

On the sidelines of the conference, the first phase of the Innovation and Excellence Competition for Scientific Research was launched, honoring outstanding students who continue to develop innovative information and cybersecurity solutions, especially using recent technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The competition aims to create an atmosphere that fosters creativity and innovation in the technical fields and equips motivated male and female students with the necessary scientific research skills, enabling them to excel in their research and development endeavors.

Contributing to the discussion sessions on cyber and intelligence information were Andrew Christopher Singh, Group Chief Risk Officer, and Dr Ali Abdulhamid Al Kazimi, Chief Information Security Officer – Group Risk Management at Burgan Bank. They shed light on the Bank’s efforts to safeguard its customers’ data against safety breaches or theft attempts. It is worth noting that Burgan continues to be among the first banking and financial institutions to adopt the latest cybersecurity technologies and data protection systems in Kuwait.

Furthermore, it upholds its commitment to participating in the biggest national, regional, and international conferences to educate customers and the public about the risks of fraud and the best means to protect their accounts and financial data. This comes as part of its steadfast support for “Let’s Be Aware” (Diraya) – the financial literacy and banking awareness campaign launched and supervised by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) and the Kuwait Banking Association (KBA) with the support of all national banks.
