Kuwait’s foreign minister, interior minister discuss cooperation with Iraq, Saudi Arabia

KUWAIT: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received on Monday Undersecretary General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of a high-level conference aimed at strengthening international counter-terrorism cooperation and building border security mechanisms and his accompanying delegation.

The conference “Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms - The Kuwait Phase of the Dushanbe Process” was held in Kuwait from November 4-5 in collaboration with Tajikistan and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. Kuwaiti officials held several meetings with visiting officials, including from Saudi Arabia and South Sudan.

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya met Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed El-Khereiji. The officials reviewed the strong ties between the two nations and discussed ways to enhance joint international efforts in combating terrorism, as well as addressing the emerging threats and challenges posed by its aftermath. Minister Al-Yahya met separately with Special Envoy of South Sudan’s President, Lieutenant General Tut Gatluak Menmi. Minister Al-Yahya received from Menmi a letter addressed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir on the bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.

The conference was also an opportunity for Iraq and Kuwait to hold talks. Minister Al-Yahya met with Iraq National Security Advisor Qassim Al-Araji, where they discussed bilateral relations and common issues, in addition to joint cooperation to defeat terrorism and its outcomes.

Kuwait’s Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah met separately with Araji on Tuesday. According to a press release by the Ministry of Interior, the meeting took place at Bayan Palace, with Iraq’s Ambassador to Kuwait Al-Manhal Al-Safi also in attendance.

The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the security sector, to serve the shared interests of both countries and their people. Both parties emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between Kuwait and Iraq within the bilateral international treaties and agreements between the two sides. Araji expressed gratitude to Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah for Kuwait’s efforts to strengthen security ties between the two countries. — KUNA
