KUWAIT: Indian Embassy in Kuwait on Sunday hosted a Diwali get-together at the India House, celebrating one of the most cherished festivals in India with traditional fervor and bonhomie. Indian Ambassador Dr Adarsh Swaika exchanged Diwali greetings with the guests who represented a cross section of the large Indian diaspora in Kuwait. Top embassy officials and their families were also present during the celebration.

In his brief address, Ambassador Swaika said Diwali, often called the “festival of lights,” is a celebration that goes beyond the lighting of lamps or bursting of firecrackers. Diwali epitomizes deep cultural, religious, and emotional significance for millions of Indians worldwide. For Indian diaspora, Diwali holds special significance as it often becomes a bridge to their homeland and a way to connect with their roots. While the lighting of lamps symbolizes the removal of darkness from human lives, the sharing of sweets reflects the spreading of joy and love.

The India House, the venue of the celebration, was decked up in vibrant lights to suit the occasion. Adding to the festive atmosphere, dance and music performances were staged. Singers Mohammed Rafi and Ambika Rajesh delighted the attendees with some of the evergreen Bollywood numbers. A wide variety of food items including traditional Diwali dishes and sweets were served to the guests who relished the delicacies in an ambiance filled with music.

“For many of us living abroad, Diwali brings nostalgia as it reminds us of our childhood memories and the festivities back home,” said Diwakar who underlined the emotional significance of the festival. The essence of Diwali remains the same no matter where it is celebrated — it’s about reaffirming family ties, celebrating prosperity, and embracing hope for the future, he added.
