KUWAIT: In a pioneering step aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental preservation, Kuwait’s Abraaj Water Company, in collaboration with the non-profit plastic collection company Omniya, has announced the production of the first water bottle in Kuwait made entirely from recycled PET plastic. This initiative comes as part of a joint effort between the two companies to instill plastic waste sorting habits for recycling through the second edition of Omniya’s Schools competition, supervised by the Ministry of Education.

The competition aims to raise a generation aware of the importance of environmental preservation and to support a circular economy that promotes responsible use of resources. This bold move follows years of research and development by specialized teams to ensure the quality and safety of the new bottle, meeting the highest health and environmental standards. The new bottles are expected to reduce the environmental impact of plastic by recycling local plastic waste, setting a precedent that may inspire other companies to follow suit in the future.

Commenting on this achievement, Omniya’s COO Farah Shaban stated: "The production of this bottle represents our commitment to environmental protection and reflects our vision to create products that have a positive impact on society and the environment.” She highlighted that this is a significant step toward raising awareness on the importance of recycling, encouraging citizens to adopt waste sorting at the source, and demonstrating its value through tangible, eco-friendly outcomes. This initiative marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve environmental, social, and corporate governance practices, ensuring sustainability and advancing the Kuwait Vision 2035.
