dar.nur’s annual exhibition highlights unique artworks

The second annual art exhibition of dar.nur was held on November 3, 2024, at Sadu House in Kuwait, bringing together a remarkable selection of artists from Kuwait and beyond, whose artwork has a unique connection to dar.nur’s vision. This year, the exhibition emphasized the diversity and talent of artists from various cultural backgrounds, including those from Kuwait, the UK, Algeria, Lebanon, Sweden and other countries. The unifying factor among these artists was not a shared medium or theme, but dar.nur’s deep appreciation for their distinctive approach to art. The exhibition, curated by Noor Alzabin, is open until November 5.

A highlight of the exhibition was Kuwaiti artist Zahra Al-Mahdi, whose artwork is inspired by her travels. She captured her journey starting from Kuwait to different countries and back to Kuwait by drawing her hand in each place she visited. Zahra added a map of her journey on the back of her work. She used pencil and pen to illustrate her experience, making the work both personal and minimalist.

Another artist featured was Amira Behbehani, who presented a deeply personal piece inspired by her grandmother and aunt, the women who raised her. Behbehani’s artwork combined silk screen printing with hand embroidery. “Whenever I exhibit any of my work, I choose to go for something that has affected my life,” she explained, underscoring her decision to honor the family members who shaped her upbringing. Among other artists was Kuwaiti artist Ghadah Alkandari who enchanted visitors with her vibrant and unique tapestries.

dar.nur’s exhibition this year stood out not only for the diverse international representation of its artists but also for the intimate connections between the artists’ works and their personal stories. The exhibition reinforced dar.nur’s commitment to highlighting talent that resonates with its unique creative perspective, making it a memorable cultural event in Kuwait’s art scene.
