DOHA: Head of Kuwait’s National Cybersecurity Center, retired Major General Mohammad Bouarki, affirmed on Sunday Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and joint Gulf coordination in the field of cybersecurity. This statement was made during Bouarki’s speech to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) while participating in the third meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Cybersecurity of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which commenced on Sunday in the Qatari capital.
Bouarki stated that the meeting discussed several important topics and issues on the agenda aimed at enhancing joint Gulf cooperation and coordination in cybersecurity through the exchange of experiences and insights. He added that the fourth meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Cybersecurity will be hosted by Kuwait in September 2025, building on the outcomes of the current meeting and strengthening integration in Gulf cybersecurity projects. Bouarki expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting the meeting and for the warm reception and organization, as well as appreciation to the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council for its efforts in coordinating the meeting’s activities.
Abdulrahman Al-Malki, President of the Qatar National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) pointed to the recent challenges which accompany the use of artificial intelligence (AI), including fraud. He added that with the great potential of AI must also come great responsibility that require scrutiny and finding the best means to utilize the tool through regionally and international cooperation, he added.
Secretary General of the GCC Jasem Al-Budaiwi commended the strides made by GCC countries in cybersecurity, revealing that five of the six members of the GCC were ranked high in the list of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) within cybersecurity in 2024. He lauded the achievements of the GCC cybersecurity committee since establishment in 2022, saying that it was reflective of the regional countries’ interest in this vital field. — KUNA
