S Korean community walks for peace in Korean peninsula

KUWAIT: Nearly 80 people walked 10 kilometers in Kuwait’s desert in hope for peace in the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East. The event, which was held on Friday, October 25, was organized by the Middle East chapter of the South Korean Peaceful Unification Advisory Council and sponsored by the South Korean Embassy in Kuwait.

Peaceful Unification Advisory Council in the Middle East Chairman Bong-cheol Hyun, Korean Ambassador to Kuwait Jong-seok Park joined Korean expats in Kuwait and Kuwait university students in the desert trek. The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC) is a constitutional institution established in accordance with Article 92 of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea. PUAC is a presidential consultative body set up to establish and implement policies on democratic and peaceful unification on a bipartisan and pan-national level.

According to a press statement from the PUAC, the participants walked the 10 kilometer course together and prayed for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula. The ambassador urged attendees to always keep in mind “the vision of a unified Korea that we dream of, which is one that is free, peaceful, and prosperous,” according to a post on the South Korean embassy’s Instagram.
