NEW YORK: Kuwait affirmed on Friday that the Palestinian cause has always been and will remain the country’s top priority, highlighting its steadfast position demonstrated through both written and oral pleadings at the International Court of Justice. This stance emphasizes the necessity of ensuring the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and respecting their independence and territorial sovereignty.
This statement was made during a speech delivered by Diplomatic Attaché Marwa Al-Aradah on behalf of the Kuwaiti Permanent Mission to the United Nations, addressing the General Assembly’s discussion on the International Court of Justice’s report regarding the implementation of the “Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Gaza.”
Aradah noted that “the essence of the UN Charter lies in recognizing the immense responsibilities required to build a world where everyone enjoys peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights.” She viewed the International Court of Justice as a manifestation of this charter, serving as the cornerstone for enforcing international law. She stressed that “the delay in enacting justice on the ground (for Palestinians) for 57 years is, in and of itself, a grave injustice and a blatant violation of international law.”
She highlighted the International Court of Justice’s efforts evident in the “Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Gaza.” Despite these efforts, she stated, the international community is repeatedly shocked by the continued aggression of the Zionist entity’s occupying forces and their impunity, along with the ongoing violations of the court’s measures, resulting in an increase in casualties and the loss of innocent lives. “The violations in our region have facilitated the persistence of brutal practices that have ... extended into the UN framework, seeking to mislead the essence of its purely humanitarian role and distort its true principles,” she said.
The Diplomatic Attaché strongly condemned the Zionist entity’s serious violations, including the confiscation of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem, converting it into a settlement area. Aradah concluded her remarks with a quote from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, emphasizing that “the Palestinian cause will remain at the forefront of the priorities and challenges facing our Arab nation,” reiterating Kuwait’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Zionist entity’s crimes. — KUNA
