Kuwait’s support for Palestine hailed at IFRC-ICRC conference

International interest in Sudan war insufficient: Official

GENEVA: Vice-President of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society Marwan Jilani expressed his appreciation for Kuwait’s continuous humanitarian support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people during the ongoing Zionist aggression.

This came in a statement to KUNA on Friday, following the conclusion of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva, which ended Thursday after bringing together more than 2,200 representatives from around the world. Jilani said that the Kuwaiti efforts in supporting humanitarian work reflect the depth of the Kuwaiti-Palestinian ties. He warned against the Zionist occupation’s ban on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing that the repercussions of this decision would extend to Lebanon and Syria.

Sudan crisis

At the conference, Secretary General of Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) Aida Abdullah called on the international community to take urgent action to stop the ongoing “mass murder” in Sudan and back humanitarian needs for Sudanese people. Speaking to KUNA on Friday in a statement following the end of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva, Abdullah added international interest in the ongoing war in Sudan is insufficient and doesn’t match the level of the crisis.

She pointed to the suffering of about 14 million displaced people due to the ongoing war in Sudan and the absence of security, health and food in light of a large shortage of international funding to deal with this humanitarian crisis.

Humanitarian response launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies has collected only 30 percent of required funding, she said. The SRCS chief expressed sorrow over the ineffectiveness of humanitarian response plan launched by the UN to offer relief aid to Sudanese people, noting this shows that the international community does not pay much attention to Sudan’s humanitarian crisis. - KUNA
