KUWAIT: The Indian Embassy in Kuwait celebrated the nineth Ayurveda Day with a focus on this year’s theme, “Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health”. Ambassador of India to Kuwait Dr Adarsh Swaika emphasized the growing importance of Ayurveda as a holistic healthcare solution worldwide.
Dr Swaika said that this year’s theme reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting innovative practices in the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) sector. “Generating quality evidence through innovation is essential for positioning Ayurveda as a leader in sustainable healthcare,” he noted.
The ambassador explained the essence of Ayurveda, which originated over 3,000 years ago, and how it seeks to balance life forces, or doshas, through natural treatments and lifestyle changes. “Ayurveda promotes overall health but also provides specific treatments for diseases,” he added, expecting further insights from experts during the event.
Dr Swaika highlighted the government of India’s efforts to promote Ayurveda globally, citing the establishment of the Ministry of AYUSH in 2014 and collaborations with international organizations. “India has signed 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to set up AYUSH Chairs in foreign universities, established 33 AYUSH Information Cells globally, and partnered with WHO to develop benchmarks for Ayurveda practices,” he said. The ambassador also mentioned the Global Traditional Medicine Centre recently inaugurated by WHO in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Speaking on the growing popularity of Ayurveda in Kuwait, Dr Swaika noted: “There is increasing demand for Ayurvedic treatments, wellness centers and health retreats. Ayurvedic medicines and cosmetics are also available in Kuwait, reflecting the broader acceptance of holistic healthcare.”
The ambassador concluded with a call to embrace Ayurveda’s spirit for shared wellness. “On this 9th Ayurveda Day, I wish everyone a healthy and happy life. The Embassy stands ready to support any proposal to further promote Ayurveda in Kuwait,” he said. An exhibition showcased various Indian Ayurvedic products, including medicines and cosmetics.
