KUWAIT: Kuwait-US talks to explore ways to collaborate in the field of space science are a foot, with several official meetings held on the matter over the past two weeks. Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister of State for the Americas Khalid Al-Zaabi chaired the latest meeting with Kuwait University and a US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) delegation.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the space policy of the United States, in addition to identifying the vision of Kuwaiti authorities regarding their interests in space projects, and ways to develop Kuwait’s space policy.

They also discussed opportunities for cooperation between NASA and Kuwaiti authorities. The Kuwait National Space Research Center, which was established following an Amiri decree by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was identified as point of contact through which NASA and Kuwaiti authorities will discuss matters pertaining to space cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies Susan Al-Bustan, Acting Head of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences Feryal Bou Rabie, Acting Head of the Physics Department and Director of the Kuwait Satellite National Project Kuwait Sat-1 Hala Khaled Al-Jassar, and the NASA Deputy Assistant Administrator for NASA Administration Casey Weissel, NASA Public Relations Officer Katherine Hamilton, along with a number of embassy members and representatives of Kuwaiti authorities.

On October 19, Kuwait University, supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, hosted a research delegation from NASA in collaboration with Kuwait’s foreign ministry and the US Embassy. Discussions centered on opportunities for collaboration, particularly in space technology and student training programs, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to advancing its role in global space exploration. The NASA delegation’s visit to Kuwait is aimed to enhance international cooperation in space exploration, focusing on research, education, and training.
