RIYADH: GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi affirmed on Sunday the GCC countries’ commitment to achieving their renewable energy, carbon neutrality and environmental conservation targets. Al-Budaiwi said in his speech at the "Forum on Enhancing the Future of Energy towards Zero Neutrality Targets”, which kicked off in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, that the GCC countries are keen on their commitments towards zero neutrality and climate change, pointing to the increasing importance they attach to sustainable energy and climate change issues.
He explained that the GCC countries’ efforts to enhance joint projects in supporting the innovation system and technical development in the field of renewable energy, investing in clean energy projects and focusing on investing in human capital and supply chains in order to achieve their targets. He also highlighted the importance of investing in renewable energy projects, developing smart grids, improving energy efficiency and the need to enhance international cooperation to confront the challenges of climate change.
Regarding the forum’s activities, Al-Budaiwi said that it contributes to the exchange of expertise, ideas and experiences among the GCC countries and paves the way for decision-making, wise and appropriate, to face climate challenges, explaining that the Gulf countries have the will and capabilities necessary to achieve their goals in the field of sustainable energy. — KUNA
