KRCS Kuwait’s tool to enact humanitarian diplomacy: Official

KUWAIT: Kuwait Red Crescent Society Chairman Ambassador Khaled Al-Maghames highlighted the importance of outlining a roadmap for coordination between Gulf Red Crescent Societies in administering social services, providing relief efforts and carrying out development projects. The statement came on the sidelines of KRCS’ celebration of Gulf Red Crescent Day, which is observed annually on October 23 and honors the efforts of volunteers in serving humanity.

Maghames said KRCS’ history of relief and development projects showcase Kuwait’s global humanitarian role. He added that the association’s efforts are the result of esteemed directives from the political leadership, which has worked diligently to establish humanitarian diplomacy as a comprehensive Kuwaiti approach through the association’s projects both within the country and abroad, in line with its humanitarian vision.

Maghames praised Gulf Red Crescent associations’ humanitarian efforts such as providing health care and relief to those in crisis around the world. He emphasized that the organizations cooperate with countries and humanitarian and international organizations to reach the most devastated areas in the world. The celebration also coincides with the anniversary of the first meeting of Gulf Red Crescent associations held in 1984 in Abu Dhabi.

Kuwait Red Crescent Society is also participating in the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies, which kicked off Wednesday, with representatives of 191 countries. President of the International Federation of Red Cross, Kate Forbes, urged for promoting the language of dialogue and peace, especially during such times the world is witnessing. Forbes noted that humanitarian aid requires a favorable environment free of pressures to ensure that it reaches all those in need without exception, especially for those living under the burden of wars, conflicts, and crises.

The General Assembly will witness, in the coming days, extensive discussions on the priorities of the International Federation for the next two years, as well as pressing humanitarian challenges, including international humanitarian law, the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, the impact of digital technologies in war, and the protection of humanitarian access. — KUNA
