KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health announced that the laboratories of Sheikha Salwa Al-Sabah Stem Cell and Umbilical Cord Center have obtained the international accreditation certificate for molecular testing from the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapeutics (AABB). This enhances Kuwait’s position in the field of health care and scientific research.

Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department at the Ministry, Dr Reem Al-Radwan, said in a press statement on Tuesday that the laboratories “are the first in the Arab world and the second globally outside the United States to obtain this accreditation’. Dr Al-Radwan explained that this accreditation is a very important step in the field of stem cell therapy as it ensures that laboratories adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety in examination and treatment methods.

The international certificate enhances confidence between health care providers and patients as it ensures that the laboratories adhere to strict regulatory requirements and provide accurate and reliable results. The accredited laboratories contain modern technologies that have been verified and follow the best international practices, which reduce the risk of contamination and ensure the safety of stem cell products.

This accreditation opens new horizons for starting programs for collecting stem cells and umbilical cord cells, which represents a fundamental step towards developing innovative and effective treatments. She stated that this achievement will have a significant impact on enhancing scientific research, improving patient treatment outcomes, and enhancing the credibility of stem cell-based treatments in medical circles. — KUNA
