The act of giving

When you lose your older brother, you lose a strong bond. This is what I felt when I received the news of the death of my brother Mohammad. My consolation is that he dedicated his life to doing good. He made Bangladesh his abode as he got closer to his creator. He contributed along with other good men to provide water and dig hundreds of wells in Bangladesh. He supervised and contributed to building tens of mosques. He built a school from which many graduated. He was getting ready to inaugurate a hospital there. People should not be sad over his death, because you lived a good life before joining his creator.

For many years, he used to spend months among the poor of Bangladeshis, consoling them and providing them with their needs. He told me many stories of mercy that make one feel proud of him. I still remember the story of an old woman he told me about. One day, my brother’s car developed a fault near a village.

Some residents took him to the shed, where he met a very old woman who could barely see or hear. Her clothes were worn out, and people do help the poor woman to feed her. She lost her family and remained alone. Abu Ahmad (Mohammad) assisted the old woman and gave her comfort for the rest of her life. The car incident turned out to be a blessing for him and the old lady.

Many people were blessed by him. The Muslim brothers loved my brother and stood by him until he joined his creator. Many families miss him a lot. He assisted many schoolboys and girls by paying their fees and providing them with clothes and food. He gave them hope and provided them with housing. This was his life on earth, but it is the hereafter that gives us hope and courage.

Yes, it is the hereafter where the harvest of life on earth is, and his place will remain empty but will be filled with the spirit of giving and love. Thousands are praying for this Arab man who went out of his way, in the spirit of brotherhood, to assist the poor. May Allah bestow His mercy on Abu Ahmad and accept him in His heavenly abode.
