Kuwait, Japan boost defense cooperation

KUWAIT: The Embassy of Japan hosted a gathering and dinner banquet on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Ambassador’s residence, attended by representative of Kuwait’s Armed Forces Major General Khaled Al-Sheryaan, Commander of the Kuwait Air Defense Force, a number of former commanders within Kuwait’s Armed Forces, Defense Attachés accredited to Kuwait and a number of foreign military officers, which reflects the longstanding Kuwait-Japan ties and further strengthening cooperation in the field of defense.

In his opening remarks, Morino Yasunari, the Ambassador of Japan to Kuwait offered his deepest condolences for the tragic loss of Captain (Pilot) Mohammed Abdulrasoul, who bravely dedicated himself to serving his country and its people. During his speech, the ambassador commemorated the deep friendship and robust cooperative ties between Japan and Kuwait such as dispatchment of ships of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to clear sea mines off the coast of Kuwait and deployment of personnel of Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force in Ali Al-Salem Air Base to contribute to humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

He also expressed his deep gratitude for the support and valuable assistance provided by the Kuwaiti armed forces at that time. This occasion allowed participants to share and exchange perspectives of regional and international affairs and to deepen their friendship.
