Kuwait committed to Gulf economic integration: Minister

KUWAIT: Kuwait reiterated its commitment to strengthening future economic relations for greater integration among Gulf States on Sunday. Minister of Finance Noura Al-Fassam emphasized the importance of fostering productive cooperation among Gulf nations as she led a Kuwaiti delegation at the sixth meeting of the Ministerial Preparatory Committee for the Economic and Development Affairs Authority of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

During the meeting held in Doha, officials gave preliminary approval to a governance framework for joint economic and development initiatives and explored ways to enhance the effectiveness of committees and related task forces. The discussions included a roadmap for initiatives and projects aimed at achieving economic unity by 2025, as well as a report on important economic development indicators across GCC countries.

Delegations reviewed timelines for reaching economic unity and were updated on ongoing free trade negotiations. The committee also discussed preparations for the first International Gulf Economic Conference scheduled for 2025, along with a detailed performance dashboard on the implementation of policies within the common Gulf market and the results of a statistical survey on joint Gulf work decisions, as well as ongoing studies and projects overseen by the Economic and Development Affairs Authority.

Minister Al-Fassam emphasized Kuwait’s dedication to participating in such meetings with GCC countries, acknowledging their crucial role in strengthening future economic relations and enhancing collaboration. She also expressed enthusiasm for hosting the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee meetings in Kuwait next year. — KUNA
