KUWAIT: The 2nd AI and Cybersecurity GCC Forum took place on October 8, 2024, organized by the American International University (AIU) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The forum focused on the critical significance of artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. Esteemed speakers with profound expertise in these fields shared invaluable insights during various presentations and workshop sessions.
At the beginning of the event, Richard Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of American International University, delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized the pivotal role of cybersecurity in contemporary society, stating that this forum marks a significant moment in history. Johnson explained that the importance of AI and cybersecurity surpasses the importance of any previous discovery humanity ever created.
He urged organizational leaders to prioritize AI and cybersecurity, and said that neglecting these areas put substantial risks to their organizations. He also highlighted the ongoing shift in the global economy driven by AI and stressed that any nation or organization wishing to remain competitive must adopt AI at all levels because failing to do so, especially in the face of competition that embraces AI, could jeopardize their operational viability.
Moreover, Johnson noted that cybercrime costs the global economy trillions of dollars, which further shows the necessity of cybersecurity. He reiterated that leaders who do not prioritize AI and cybersecurity are placing their organizations in high risk of failure. On his part, Major General Mohammad A Boarki, Chairman of Kuwait’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), welcomed attendees and underscored the importance of technological advancement, particularly in AI and cybersecurity.
He discussed the rapid technological developments currently taking place, which present both challenges and opportunities for various sectors. General Boarki outlined that the conference would delve into these issues through discussions with leading experts. He further stated that the initiatives discussed at the forum are vital for enhancing national security and safeguarding society against emerging risks. In closing, he addressed the youth. "You are the future bearers of knowledge and innovation,” he said. He encouraged them to seize this valuable opportunity to expand their perspectives during this forum.
