Kuwait-funded Islamic Studies Faculty inaugurated in Irbil

Iraq, Kuwait to have dialogue on outstanding issues

IRBIL: The Islamic Studies Faculty building within Salaheddine University in Irbil has been inaugurated, an achievement that has been attained with funding from Kuwait. The financial resources had been allocated through Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and the Kuwaiti Relief Society, as part of the Kuwaiti humanitarian campaign, “Kuwait on your side.”

In a statement to KUNA, the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the Kurdistan Region, Pshtiwan Sadq Abdullah, said this scientific edifice is the latest of the chain of generous initiatives that have been launched by Kuwait for the Kurdistan Region. He affirmed that the faculty graduates “would be armed with enlightened thoughts free of extremism.” Meanwhile, Dr Jamil Ali, the dean of the Islamic Sciences Faculty, expressed gratitude to Kuwait, in remarks to KUNA, for this generous gesture.

Outstanding issues

In another development, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said Thursday that his country is set to have dialogue with Kuwait soon to look into outstanding issues, voicing his country’s genuine willingness to reach understandings thereof. Hussein made the remark while meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf in Washington, focusing on bilateral relations and joint cooperation, along with several regional matters, said the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in a press release.

During the meeting, both sides touched upon ways of settling unresolved issues with Kuwait and the necessity of returning to the negotiating table, it said. The Iraqi minister added that the recent meetings of both Iraqi and Kuwaiti delegations during the UN General Assembly in New York had underlined the significance of dialogue as “the right way to resolve problems.” For her part, the US official vowed that Washington would utterly back the Iraqi government’s endeavors to contain crises, according to the release. — KUNA
