KUWAIT: Kuwait will participate for the first time in the Special Olympics MENA Regional Sailing Competition in Dubai which will be held from October 2 to 7, and the event will be hosted by Dubai International Marine Club.
A delegation headed by Secretary General of Tomooh Sports Club for the Mentally Disabled Sadeeqa Al-Ansari, accompanied by players Suleiman Al-Nassar, Nawaf Awadh, Abdulrahman Al-Kandary and Munaf Al-Wuhaib left for Dubai to join a training camp in preparation for the competition.
Al-Ansari said this is the first time the Special Olympics participate in the sailing contest which is being held within the framework of the unified sport and sports inclusion in which athletes of Special Olympics join their non-disabled partners. She pointed to the importance of such contests in facilitating the positive environment to implement the principle of inclusion and social empowerment for the disabled through sports activities.
She said the Special Olympics will have a training camp in the UAE to train the players on the game’s techniques which relies on the ability to determine the direction, set the speed and balance to confront the winds and movement of sea currents.
Al-Ansari thanked Kuwait Sea Sport Club for participating in preparing the players for the competition, while expressing confidence in the players’ ability to perform honorably in the name of Kuwait.
Al-Ansari thanked the Public Authority for Sport and Sea Club as well as the UAE’s Special Olympics for organizing and hosting the event.
