KEPS team monitors and protects migrating birds

KUWAIT: The Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) team monitoring and protecting birds commented on the atmospheric and natural factors concerning the migration of birds. “In case of high humidity, the number of migrating birds will be much less compared during the ideal weather conditions”, the head of Birds Monitoring and Protection team at KEPS Mohammad Shah said.

Some factors directly affect the timing of birds’ movement. After the northern-winds in autumn, large numbers of birds migrate to Kuwait. A team member Mohammad Al-Hudaina said “humidity plays a negative role on migrating birds, as an increase in humidity affects their ability to fly. Sometimes birds are forced to land and may not complete their journey”. He said that he photographed many migrating birds that came to the country and were affected by weather conditions particularly high humidity and strong winds, and among those birds were desert eagles, vultures or shod eagles.
