KUWAIT: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced on Tuesday the departure of the seventh aid relief plane from Abdullah Mubarak Airbase, carrying onboard two ambulances heading to Port Sudan International Airport. KRCS’ Director of Disaster Management and Emergency, Yousef Al-Miraj, said to KUNA that this contribution is an extension of KRCS’ humanitarian role, given the current situation in Sudan, which is facing humanitarian conditions that require support at all levels.
This support aims to enhance the emergency and ambulance capabilities in Sudan to remain able to provide emergency services to the Sudanese people, he added. Al-Miraj said that the donation would help save many lives as well as cover part of the hospitals’ needs for ambulances, expressing hope that the ambulance would provide immediate support to improve health conditions for the Sudanese people.
He noted that KRCS provided various aids, including medicines, food, relief supplies, tents, and ambulances, reaffirming that Kuwait always stands by Sudan. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, and Kuwait Air Forces, commanding their role in aiding and rescuing those affected worldwide, guided by the leadership of Kuwait.
Meanwhile, the sixth aircraft (part of the Kuwaiti airbridge) arrived in Port Sudan carrying 10 tons of humanitarian aid to relieve the affected Sudanese people. Dr Fahad Al-Dhafeeri, Kuwait’s ambassador to Sudan, explained to KUNA that with the help of the Kuwait Relief Society, this batch included hundreds of tents and necessary equipment to aid the thousands of people displaced by the widespread flooding.
Al-Dhafeeri emphasized that these efforts are in line with the directives of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, reflecting Kuwait’s solidarity with the Sudanese people. This airbridge is the second of its kind since the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023. The first airbridge included 16 aircraft and two ships, dedicated to delivering aid to the affected people. — KUNA
