New deportation center opens

KUWAIT: The ministry of interior opened on Monday a new building of the department of deportation and temporary detention affairs in Sulaibiya, based on instructions of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah. The ministry said in a statement that the general department of correctional institutions has begun transferring inmates awaiting deportation (men and women) to the new building in several stages.

It said this step comes as an embodiment of Sheikh Fahad’s keenness to support projects that meet the needs of inmates of correctional institutions on an ongoing basis, explaining that the new building is characterized by its application of all international standards related to respecting human rights, as it includes many service facilities.

The ministry added this initiative is part of a series of developmental projects aimed at improving the working environment within correctional institutions and enhancing the rights of inmates, as well as continuing the modernization and development of correctional facilities in line with international standards to ensure the provision of necessary care for them. – KUNA
