KUWAIT: The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced on Sunday that it is providing urgent aid to help those affected by floods and heavy rains that swept through the Yemeni governorates of Hodeidah and Marib, displacing thousands and destroying infrastructure there. The Society’s Director General Abdulrahman Al-Aoun told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that this aid embodies Kuwait’s policy of providing relief to the needy and alleviating the effects of this disaster that befell tens of thousands of Yemenis whose homes were destroyed and who were displaced due to rains and floods.

Al-Aoun added that providing aid to Yemenis comes in response to the most important emergency needs resulting from the floods in the governorates of Hodeidah and thousands of affected families. He explained that providing aid from the society comes in response to calls from local authorities in these two governorates to provide relief to the afflicted and to reduce the suffering of families affected by the torrential floods there, noting that there is cooperation and coordination to distribute relief aid with the Response Foundation for Humanitarian and Relief Works.

The aid included the distribution of 1,200 shelter bags and food aid to 1,200 families, in addition to the periodic distribution of ready-made meals to 3,000 families as part of the life-saving aid project and the distribution of 500 personal hygiene bags. The rains and floods that hit the governorates of Hodeidah and Marib caused human losses, swept away the homes of the displaced, and caused great damage to the infrastructure, in addition to property losses. — KUNA
