KUWAIT: Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi said that blood donation campaigns enhance the blood stock in the Central Blood Bank and save human lives, calling on citizens and residents to donate blood because of its importance for many medical cases such as cancer patients, operations and road accidents.

This came in a press statement by Al-Awadhi after the launch of the campaign (Together forever a wall for the homeland 9) organized by the ministry, represented by the Central Blood Bank, in cooperation with the military corps and civil society institutions on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion of the State of Kuwait.

Awadhi said that during his visit to the blood bank to supervise the launch of the campaign, he was briefed on a patient in the blood transfusion unit at the center who was being prepared for liver transplantation. The patient, Awashi was told, needs about six blood bags per day. Another patient he met gets daily blood transfusions to survive. This requires people to donate blood regularly.

Director of the Central Blood Bank, Dr Reem Al-Radwan, said that the campaign comes in gratitude to the military corps who served during the brutal Iraqi invasion and to all those who sacrificed their blood for the liberation of Kuwait. She noted the keenness of civil society institutions to participate in blood donation. She added that the blood stock is stable, but the bank continues to receive donors and organize blood donation campaigns, pointing out that the donated blood is good to use for only a month, which requires intensifying campaigns continuously.

It is noteworthy that the campaign (Together forever is a wall for the homeland) is launched for the ninth year in a row and aims to serve as a reminder of national cohesion and the role of the righteous martyrs who gave their blood as a sacrifice for Kuwait. The campaign comes with the participation of the military corps represented by the army, police and the National Guard, in addition to the Kuwait Fire Force, as well as a number of civil society institutions and the government and private sectors, in order to consolidate the concept of humanitarian and voluntary work, promote social solidarity and spread the culture of donation. — KUNA
