Kuwait marks 34th invasion anniversary, remembers support

KUWAIT: On August 2, Kuwait marks the 34th anniversary of the 1990 Iraqi invasion, a significant event that led to widespread international condemnation and a global coalition to liberate Kuwait. The invasion caused extensive destruction and suffering among the Kuwaiti people, who responded by forming resistance groups.

The Kuwaiti government, led by late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, garnered international support, resulting in UN Security Council Resolution 660. This resolution condemned the invasion and demanded Iraq’s immediate withdrawal.

The international community, including Arab states, formed a coalition that successfully liberated Kuwait in February 1991. Kuwait’s reputation as a peaceful and generous nation contributed to the strong global support it received. — KUNA
